Osteopathy in pregnancy: support, trimester by trimester
The body changes fast over nine months. Osteopathy helps you go through those changes more comfortably.
Weight gain, a tilting pelvis, stretched abdominal muscles, a compressed diaphragm: in nine months the mechanics of the body reorganise completely.
First trimester
Hormonal change brings fatigue, nausea and digestive upset. Gentle work on the diaphragm and the digestive area often brings noticeable relief.
Second trimester
The pelvis gradually opens and the curve of the lower back deepens. This is the period of low back pain, pelvic pain and sciatica. A session helps the body adapt rather than simply endure.
Third trimester
The uterus presses on the diaphragm and the stomach: short breath, reflux, heavy legs, difficulty sleeping. Work focuses on the mobility of the pelvis, the ribs and the diaphragm, in preparation for birth.
After the birth
A postnatal session, roughly six to eight weeks after delivery, helps the body find its balance again. It works alongside the pelvic floor rehabilitation prescribed by your midwife or doctor — never instead of it.
Is it safe?
Yes, provided the techniques are adapted: no forceful manipulation, comfortable positioning on your side or on a suitable table, and questions asked beforehand about how the pregnancy is going. Any high-risk pregnancy requires the agreement of the medical team following you.
