Frequently asked questions
Everything worth knowing before your first osteopathy appointment.
Do I need a referral to see an osteopath ?
No. Osteopathy is a first-contact profession: you can book directly, with no prescription and no referral from your doctor.
What happens during a first session ?
Allow between 45 minutes and an hour, in four stages: a detailed conversation about why you came and your medical history, a physical examination with mobility testing, the treatment itself, and advice adapted to your daily life.
Does treatment hurt ?
No. Techniques are chosen for your age, your build and your sensitivity. Some areas can feel tender while they are being treated, but nothing is done without your agreement.
What should I wear ?
Something loose and comfortable.
How many sessions will I need ?
For a recent problem, one to three sessions is usually enough. For prevention, two or three visits a year suits most people. Long-standing pain sometimes needs more regular follow-up.
Will my insurance reimburse me ?
Osteopathy is not covered by the French state health system. Most private health policies do include an annual allowance, often €100 to €300. You receive an invoice at every session. Osteopathy is not reimbursed in Luxembourg either.
Which practice should I book ?
Whichever is easiest for you: Hettange-Grande and Breistroff-la-Grande in Moselle (booking on Doctolib), Mondorf-les-Bains in Luxembourg (booking on Doctena). You see the same osteopath with the same approach wherever you go. The applicable fee is shown when you book.
Can I be treated during pregnancy ?
Yes, at every stage, with gentle techniques and comfortable positioning. Treatment is particularly useful in the second and third trimesters, and after the birth. I am trained in perinatal care and in breastfeeding support.
How old does a baby need to be ?
Babies can be seen from their first days of life. A check-up in the weeks following birth often prevents tension from settling in.
Are there any contraindications ?
Yes. Recent fractures, acute infections and certain vascular or tumoral conditions rule out some or all treatment. Clinical tests are carried out at the start of every session, and I will refer you to a doctor if that is what your situation calls for.
Is it normal to feel tired afterwards ?
Yes, it is common. Tiredness or aching can appear for 24 to 48 hours while the body adjusts. Drink plenty of water and avoid hard exercise on the same day.
Does osteopathy replace medical treatment ?
Never. It works alongside your medical care and replaces neither a consultation with your doctor nor any treatment you have been prescribed.
Can I come for prevention, without pain ?
Absolutely. A check-up once or twice a year picks up compensations before they start to hurt.
Are consultations available in English ?
Yes. Sessions are held in French or in English, whichever you are more comfortable with — just say so when you arrive.
